Concentration

My concentration focuses on the direct effect that colors can have on emotion in artwork. I enjoy working with colors and using them to manipulate the effect of artwork, and exploring this idea I built my concentration. At the beginning, my intent was to work with color in order to bring out certain emotions in my pieces. I chose to have the pieces have a single color to convey a certain emotion. One piece was orange to show joy, another was blue to show hope, and one was a dark red to convey a deep anger. This carried on for a while until eventually, with the addition of painting hands as the manifestation of emotion into my piece, I began to make my pieces more surreal and abstract. I depicted flowers draining the color and emotion from the girl in the portrait, and another piece has the girl’s face splitting into three to convey uncertainty and worry, with color completely absent to make it appear dark and hopeless. My concentration became more centered around the intensity and use of all colors, rather than just one in order to convey a certain emotion.
